Dr. Lin’s EulogyI am honored to share with you my dad’s eulogy. What inspired me to write this was Dr. Lin’s PHD dissertation that he gave me before he was diagnosed with skin cancer. I know he is in God’s list of names, though he is too humble to say it.
My dad was a very quiet, hard-working/industrious, mindful, and wise man, a family man.

He taught me many morals from the Bible’s Proverbs and Aesop’s fables, namely the crow and the fox. One bright morning as the Fox was following his sharp nose through the wood in search of a bite to eat, he saw a Crow on the limb of a tree overhead. This was by no means the first Crow the Fox had ever seen. What caught his attention this time and made him stop for a second look, was that the lucky Crow held a bit of cheese in her beak.
"No need to search any farther," thought sly Master Fox. "Here is a dainty bite for my breakfast."
Up he trotted to the foot of the tree in which the Crow was sitting, and looking up admiringly, he cried, "Good-morning, beautiful creature!"
The Crow, her head cocked on one side, watched the Fox suspiciously. But she kept her beak tightly closed on the cheese and did not return his greeting.
"What a charming creature she is!" said the Fox. "How her feathers shine! What a beautiful form and what splendid wings! Such a wonderful Bird should have a very lovely voice, since everything else about her is so perfect. Could she sing just one song, I know I should hail her Queen of Birds."
Listening to these flattering words, the Crow forgot all her suspicion, and also her breakfast. She wanted very much to be called Queen of Birds. So she opened her beak wide to utter her loudest caw, and down fell the cheese straight into the Fox's open mouth.
"Thank you," said Master Fox sweetly, as he walked off. "Though it is cracked, you have a voice sure enough. But where are your wits?"
The flatterer lives at the expense of those who will listen to him.
I didn’t know this story, but my dad told me not to be flattered by people.
He didn’t need people to say how good he was, because he had something to show for.
I know that I am not able to do it on my own. And as you feel called, I would be blessed if you would consider supporting me prayerfully and/or financially.
Sincerely,
Justina Lin, CNA
Cherish,
Two people fell in love in the wake of the Chinese Cultural Revolution before moving to America . Families had a diaspora from their homes. By God’s grace and providence, God saved Peter’s life and he was born again to become a Christian.
Peter Peter was at the top of his class in China. His village was so poor that they couldn’t afford an education. His mother had to sell blood to afford school. She had to hand-write text books, working furiously to provide something to read. His amount of homework was so much that his father measured the amount of homework he had in feet, not inches. He was so poor that he never got to eat meat. He only got one piece of meat, once a year, on his birthday. Peter was interested in being an engineer to use his skills to help people and solve problems. He went to Berlin, Germany for college at the Technical University of Berlin to learn about various techniques to build machines and robots. He went to UIC to get a PHD in mechanical engineering, writing a dissertation on moving robots.
Jesus is the catalyst! A catalyst is a substance that speeds up a chemical reaction, or lowers the temperature or pressure needed to start one, without itself being consumed during the reaction. Catalysis is the process of adding a catalyst to facilitate a reaction.Jean grew up in a turbulent time in the Cultural Revolution. The “Great Proletarian Cultural Revolution” was in the PRC, People’s Republic of China, and it was a sociopolitical movement launched by Mao Zedong in 1966, lasting until 1976 when he died. The goal was to purge capitalist remmants in order to preserve Chinese socialism. “Cultural Revolution.” Wikipedia, Wikimedia Foundation, 10 Oct. 2024, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cultural_Revolution. Jean’s mother taught math class for Calculus in a University and her father studied physics at the University of Beijing, along with his two older brothers. The univeristy of Beijing was basically the Harvard of China at the time, due to the intense coursework and low acceptance and graduation rate. Chapter 2: Music Therapy For Hospice Patients - The Chinese Lins learn about “Music”People in rural China could not always afford instruments or any kind of luxury when it came to musical entertainment. Jean’s brother played the violin. Jean played the accordion, the piano, and in the States, the harp. It took a lot of passion for music to practice instruments every day because the climate was sometimes hostile towards people pursuing their various interests. There is a brief history of piano here. The invention of piano had variations for the types of piano in terms of grand, upright, specialized, and electric. The piano has a keyboard and pedals and interesting mechanics.

But she was very gifted at the accordion. Whenever a fellow Chinese alien was depressed, then Jean the alien would take action to play the instrument in a well-tempered manner. She then played two kinds of pianos: the Charles Walter Upright piano, which is more common, and then the Steinway and Sons grand piano, which is a necessity for venues for pianists with great skill. The keyboard has a key to vibrate on the strings, and notes are thereby thus sustained. Jean’s piano also had different pedals for teaching her three children the piano with colorful sounds.
After Jean bought her grand piano with the powerful sound, she would host singing for bible studies to give glory to God through Chinese and American hymnals for family members and brothers and sisters of the chuch to heal broken hearts. Jean’s daughter played in a jazz band for the rhythm section and also composed for songwriting. Jean’s son Joshua played the harp for ensemble performances in the City of chicago as well as accompanied musicians for weddings and birthday parties across the US.The original piano in china was modeled off an organ with keyboard mechanisms and hammered dulcimers. How the keys work are that you depress the key and the hammer note strikes the vibration, returning to “rest”. The piano keys are pressed and can have various dynamics on the modern piano. One song that Jean’s daughter liked to play was Chopin’s Edute Op 25 No 12. Furthermore, Jean liked to work on her musical songs from converting hymn books. In the period from about 1790 to 1860, the Mozart-era piano underwent tremendous changes that led to the modern structure of the instrument. This revolution was in response to a preference by composers and pianists for a more powerful, sustained piano sound, and made possible by the ongoing Industrial Revolution with resources such as high-quality piano wire for strings, and precision casting for the production of massive iron frames that could withstand the tremendous tension of the strings.[13] Over time, the tonal range of the piano was also increased from the five octaves of Mozart's day to the seven octave (or more) range found on today's pianos.
In the 1700s Broadwood and a dutchman called Americus designed the first “grand” piano. This piano got a reputation for the splendid and powerful tone of the piano, and they sent this piano to Joseph Hyadn and Ludwiv van Beehotven. This piano had five octavies and the makers in Vienna used a horizontal frame where the action is beneath the string to return it to a state of rest. The baby grand was 4 feet 1 inches and the boudoir grand was 5 foot 7 inches. The concert grand was even longer at 7 feet and 3 inches and 9 feet and 10 inches! Meanwhile Jean’s brother studied oceanography. Jean studied biolog
Jean’s family was relocated amidst immense hardships. She studied biology as a scientist, using her education to excel in school with excellent grades to help others. She went to school in Guangxi. Her grandma went to an Ivy League school in America, while the rest of the family stayed in China. Jean had to write letters to Peter because there was no Internet, and they had a long-distance relationship from Germany to China. There were many political events happening globally, and in China people had to be very careful. Jean became a Christian and was baptized,
Chapter 3:
Peter moves to America and attends Hyde Park Christian Reformed ChurchRomans 15: I make it my mission to preach the gospel. Next up, there was a big transition as Jerry graduated from high school and the 2007 financial crisis hit. This crisis affected many people’s finances and also hindered people from finding jobs upon graduation. What happened was a severe crisis that was a global phenomena called the GFC. You may be wondering what started this crisis. Well, one major factor was mortgages that were subprime due to lending practices that predatory. There was a big housing bubble! Moreover, there was a lack of regulation for institutions that failed to provide oversight for people taking risks that were excessive…Lastly, one reason for the financial crisis of 2007 -2008 was that there was securitization where banks would give loans and then sell those loans in a second market. What this resulted in was that standards for lending were lowered, which is was not beneficial to the health of the economy. Peter had various jobs as an engineer, but due to the financial crisis the job market was volatile.
Next up, there were also many home foreclosures and a great recession that lasted for two whole years. Banks were also reformed in terms of financial regulation. The government created the TARP, an asset relief program. Later on, what happened was that there was a big decision in Youth Group during the Covid19 pandemic. Peter was the youth group Deacon for the youth group, and they could either meet in person against the government’s orders, or meet online.Peter and Jean eagerly moved to America! It was a massive effort to immigrate to a new country! They moved to Chicago, Illinois, where they had a baby boy. They found a church by the University of Chicago. There was a lot of work to be done for the new family. They had a second baby, a girl. Peter’s dad and mom moved from China to come to America to help with the new family addition. There were many world events happening.
Peter and Jean moved to Joliet. Peter worked as an engineer. Jean stayed at home. The internet was just starting to take off. What happened was that people connected computer networks across devices for communication purposes. It was of a global scope that linked many electronic technologies. Much information was shared through electronic mail and hypertext documents as well. In the 1970s the US Department of Defense commissioned research and development for desgining data communications and communication rules, in collaboration with researches in the UK and France.
In the 1990s the advent of the WWW World Wide Web started the modern internet’s chapter. Many communication methods, such as radio, paper mail, and telephone were reshaped into interent telephone, online music, email, web feeds, blogging, and more. Online shopping also changed as firms extended brick and mortar presence to sell goods and services online across entire industries. “Internet.” Wikipedia, Wikimedia Foundation, 10 Oct. 2024, en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Internet. There were many new developments that took place.
Chapter 4: Peter learns of the Gospel
How did two Communist Chinese atheists become Christians and born again believers? This was the message that was presented to Peter and Jean. All people have sinned. “…for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,” Romans 3:23 (ESV)
2. The penalty for our sin is death. “For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus, our Lord.” Romans 6:23 (ESV) 3. Jesus Christ came to earth, lived a perfect life, died, and was resurrected to pay the penalty for our sins. “But God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” Romans 5:8 (ESV)
Chapter 4: Peter in Berlin in the 1980s
The 1980s was a decade of many significant events, including the rise of MTV for pop ulcutre, and many blockbuster movies. Also the 1980s saw the world wine web server become established. Then in sports, the Los Angeles Lakers dmoinated the NBA. In politics, Ronald Reagan was elected president. Socially, the Berlin Wall fell down, which ended communism in Eastern europe. The AIDS epidemic began.
In the 1980s AIDs began. Chapter : Peter begins a new adventure, moving to naperville IL and Peter’s son Jerry becomes a financial advisor! When there is a lot of prayer, prayers get answered. One answered prayer was moving to a new city. Moving was an exciting change. Some people don’t like to move. Some people like the new adventure. God answered Peter’s prayers!
Jerry became a financial advisor after studying economics. The statistics for financial advisors boded well for parents raising two children who were well-versed in working in finance. Jerry became a CFA, certified financial advisor, to solve problems using research to aid businesses using his education at Amherst as well as on the job training. After his second child, he reduced his work hours to 70% . he Next up, Peter had to find out how to make sure his grandson could go to Kindergarten. His mother did a good job home-schooling as a full time teacher. His aunt also taught as a teacher, even though originally she wanted to be a consultant to travel. Peter had to do research on how to help his child make it to school. One statistic about kindergarten is that six percent of them start before 5, and 42 percent start between 5 and 5.5. Peter helped his gandon test into kindergarten. His grandson was doing a full ay program for private home school, with diverse curriculum such as a language arts.
Chapter 7: Peter becomes a deacon for youth group and gives the glory to God
Next up, Peter stepped down from being the deacon for OYG over flow youth group at Living Water, a plant from CCMC chinese christian mandarin church. Instead of doing his church’s youth ministry Peter hten became a faithful servant to ML, machine learning, studying algorithms all day to provide for his daughter after canceling a marriage engagement. Peter started studying the fundamentals of deep learning with CNN, convoluted neural networks, so that he could analyze arrays of information and teach machines how to take in a set of information and read the output, winning a nobel prize. Chapter 11Peter’s daughter becomes a music therapist and nurse assistant for public health’s sociological effects Justina begins helping the next generation! While originally Justina had wanted to use her business minor from Northwestern to sell life insurance using her license, her circumstances changed and she ended up watching kids before school from 6-8 am during running club and became a children’s caregiver. It sparked her joy for helping kids achieve their maximum potential, spiritually, intellectually, mentally and physically. Justina decided to go back to school for a social work degree for BCBA doing ABA therapy to help kids who were not emotional and who did not talk much and talked slowly. She first prepared to go into the field with some training, where she learned about the forefathers and foremothers of psychological thought. She learned about Edward l thorndike, who did experiments with cats, with Justin online. Then after a relationship with someone called Joe, he encouraged Justina to work in business, so Justina started her own business called “heavenly harp” doing recreational therapy through harp in orchestra and Red cross volunteering. Justina used her heavenly harp to help hospice residents isolated due to Covid like Forest Zander, where Justina strove to provide her residents social equality in his activities of daily living due to a lack of basic equality and patient rights in elder abuse. Few high-quality studies have examined the effects of meditation and mindfulness on blood pressure. According to a 2017 statement from the American Heart Association, the practice of meditation may have a possible benefit, but its specific effects on blood pressure have not been determined.Peter decided he needed to work on mindful mediation to work on his blood pressure and cancer.
Chapter 11: Peter’s Job at NIU
Peter got to help advise some seniors with their senior projects to make robotic wings and other contraptions. He also was able to work on some training for people to help them in their professional work. He learned how to teach the Fundamentals of Deep Learning with NVIDIA.
Chapter 12: Justina starts her FullbrightEncouraging her is her eagerness to read health regulations after COVID-19. Justina was convicted to take advantage of the medical knowledge she gained using Sychar’ blue rock training and Kim and Renee and Anna’s CNA training from covenant living in fairfax’s locked memory unit to help people in africa with Piaf.
Calling her is her job in Lesotho with Baylor through PIAF to “go, listen to people’s stories, and provide basic medical srevices, including dental work.”
Her first missionary letter was inspired by the Bible’s call to action. Her Second missionary letter is inspired by aesop’s fable, where she wrote her love story between the anthpormophic animal JJ, dinosaur-bird mix and Gail, the snake-worm hybrid.
Kristina: “What happened to your foot, snake?”Gwen: “A DINOSAUR BIT MY TOE!”Kristina bbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbb:“What?! How is that possible?Gail:, I had a piece of meat and the snake grabbed the toy from me, then chewed off my leg! Can you believe it?KK:Gail, Caterpillar: Yes, I’m so sorry that happened! Did you find out who the snake was, or did they slither off after the deed was done as a hit and run?KK: Wouldn’t you like to know? Haha you will never know!Gwen: This is why I told you not to go on vacation with Aunt Ant. Every time you go somewhere with her, something happens. Frankly you are lucky you only had your ankle bitten off!JJ: Who am I, Job? You are just making it worse. Sheesh, some friend you are!Gail: Umm, let’s not forget who called the Uber that drove you to the hospital so they could fix your leg.
Beetle-Dinosaur: No comment
Justina’s Musical:
The moral of the story is the value of real friendship, because JJ wanted Gail’s toy, but he bit him because he wanted it, too. Even though it is an imaginary dinosaur bug, the anthropmorphic essence of Aesop’s make-believe/imaginary fable shows human nature that people should share. This screenplay is meant to save people eternally who rejected Jesus.
Chapter 11: Justina’s Heavenly Harp Hospice Home Health, CNA as her father lays dying
Chapter 12: Peter passes away
Justina played piano for her dying father as he read his Bible. Justina learned to play “Abide with me” for him before he passed away. Peter enjoyed his Bible with great stories so every day there was a story, perhaps about a Revelations-esque horse staring at the end of the world. By playing piano for Peter in a calm demeanor, Justina discovered her passion for using recreational therapy to help people with public health issues like Cancer. She hopes to continue this groundbreaking work for her mother.
Delight Summer
Executive Summary
Bamboo Queen’s Treasure Camp is an after school teaching youth camp in Cambodia. https://us.fulbrightonline.org/countries/east-asia-pacific/cambodia/1864. Justina wanted to use her English LIterature degree from Northwestern University and perfect SAT score to help other scholars acquire a wealth of knowledge.
Summer Youth Camp is a three-month summer project in March, April and May every year where the youths and children aged 10-25 are recruited and provided Leadership trainings, 21st Skills trainings and social sciences as well as intensive English proficiency classes, General Music class and Musical Instrument classes for their educational advancement and professional preparation. This year is the third year for the project since 2022.
Junior Class
This year, 2024 is the most challenging year for us because of several challenges. The most horrifying challenge is the Myanmar military’s conscription law which forces youths aged 18 to 35 to serve for up to 2 years under the military command. We are intimidated by this mandatory notice. Therefore, this year we have decided to open the summer youth camp on a hybrid basis: in-person classes for junior students aged 12-15 who are not at direct risk of this law, and online classes for senior youths aged 16 and above because senior youths are at high risk of being forced to serve for military service and we cannot guarantee their safety if in person at the Bamboo Delight School.
Another challenge is financial challenge because there is no financial support for our project due to little attention from NGOs and INGOs. Initially, we decided to take a break this year but I cannot turn blind eyes to our students, kids and youths and their educational development. I want to keep creating sustainable impacts and do not want them to discontinue their learning. Despite this financial crisis, I am implementing this year’s Summer Youth Camp with the help of youth leaders by using out-of-pocket money.
Next, this year’s camp is led by youths and alumni themselves and they are co-leaders for the management and they will participate in project implementation as part of their learning process. 2024 Youth Camp is special because it is led by youths for youths.

Background and Statement of Problem
Myanmar has been affected severely by both the Covid-19 pandemic and most obviously the military coup and severe political situations across the country. Nyaung Shwe is no exception while many NGOs and INGOs do not normally see it as their project location and invest less in development work in Nyaung Shwe than other cities in Myanmar.
Children and youths in Nyaung Shwe came to meet us and said, “We used to dream big but now we dream small due to the lack of quality education, and we really want to continue learning”. Just this word broke my colleagues’ and my hearts but it did encourage us to implement this project to fill this gap and to solve educational inequality.
In Nyaung Shwe, the youths and children aged between 12 and 20 have been lacking proper educational development since 2020 due to both Covid-19 and political conditions, resulting that some are getting married at a very young age, some addicted to drugs and alcohol, and some now working for low wages to provide for their families. Many youths have chosen wrong paths, including old students of Bamboo Delight.
Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, schools closed for almost two years and when severe political situations occurred, many children and youths do not continue education anymore. Consequently, their education is being delayed but youths in Nyaung Shwe are not willing to give up their learning and approached us for creating opportunities for them to keep learning and continue their education.
Moreover, Nyaung Shwe township does not receive any international attention from NGOs and INGOs. It needs so many development opportunities to grow all aspects of education, women, children and so on. Our project aims to solve the educational inequality for youths and children from underprivileged backgrounds.
With my motivation to worship Jesus, I decided to play piano and teach students piano to share the gospel message through worship lyrics about what Jesus did. Using this motivation I created my “Music Path” project to finish the project for teaching kids music.
spite of the lack of enough funds, my team and I managed to finish the project with the help of close friends as well as the assistance of volunteers. Last year 2023 was 10 years anniversary of our organization. The team managed to complete the Summer Youth Camp project successfully despite insufficient funds.
This year again 2024, my project team and I want to continue this project with many new ideas and creativity for education of youths and children in Nyaung Shwe in order to create sustainable impacts despite security and financial loan challenges.
